Our guide to a day trip around Little Italy San Diego

Little Italy San Diego

San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood is one of our city’s most popular picks for a day out--and for good reason! Besides plenty of delicious offerings at our Little Italy Food Hall, there’s plenty to see and do.

Here are our top picks for a summer day spent in and around Little Italy.

  • Ride in on the trolley for the day: Parking around the neighborhood can be tricky so we recommend taking the trolley in. Day passes are $5 with weekend family discounts (on Saturdays and Sundays, up to two children, age 12 and under can ride free with a fare-paying adult of 18 or older).
  • Check out the waterfront: Visit the USS Midway Museum or rent bikes and ride along the waterfront. While you’re at it, check out Waterfront Park! There’s an interactive splash fountain for the kids to cool off, plus a playground and grassy areas.
  • Get some shopping done: We’re big fans of well-curated, San Diego boutiques like Stroll, Vocabulary Boutique, and Be Boutique. Grab a cute top, jewelry and gifts for everyone at these shops before stopping by LIFH for lunch and dessert. Enjoy great food and great weather (with an ocean breeze!) in the Piazza Della Famiglia and don’t forget to snap a photo with the Little Italy before continuing on downtown.
  • See a Padres game: Take the Green Line south from Little Italy’s trolley station to Gaslamp Quarter. Our beautiful Petco Park stadium is just a short walk away and seeing the Padres with friends and family is a truly San Diego experience! Grab a hotdog, bbq or burger and some brews and relax as the afternoon fades into the evening. Head back home on the trolley or stay and explore the Gaslamp area and downtown San Diego-- trolley service ends at 2 a.m.
